Eventful Cycle Home

The cycle home today turned into a reasonably eventful one and
one which almost resulted in me being turned into mincemeat right
outside the MacDonalds in Rangiora - the driver must have been very
hungry to not wait for me to pass the entry to the drive
through.
First up tho' a driver cutting across my path at the Johns Road,
Main North Road intersection. Whilst this was a low speed incident
it is never-the-less still very intimidating and scary for cyclists
to have this happen to them - you simply do not know what the
driver is doing and I fail to understand why he couldn't wait the
1-2 seconds for me to get past before completing the turn.
The next incident is the one mentioned above - mincemeat at
Macdonalds. This lady received a fair amount of verbal from me and
in no way made any attempt to apologise for her stupid actions. So
should she have failed to stop I shudder to think of the mess I
would have been in. Some peace of mind - my father-in-law makes
coffins !!!!
And lastly this one simply highlights issues for cyclists when
negotiating roundabouts - I will give the driver some slack and
assume his indicator light is broken. However from my observations
of motorists at roundabouts I would estimate that maybe 50%
indicate correctly - the indicating rule is not complicated but it
seems that a lot of people cannot be bothered adhering to the
rules, or they apply their own interpretation to the rules and
confuse the heck out of everybody !
